Make New Friends

This is one traditional way to close a Girl Scout meeting.  Girls and leaders
stand in a “Friendship Circle,” with their right hand crossed over their left
hand, holding hands with the person next to them.

Optional: New Girl Scouts can stand in the middle of the circle and spin
around!

NOTE: This song can be sung as a "round", but traditionally, it is sung straight
through as is.

Optional Start off:
Leaders: Girl Scouts!
Girls: One Two!
Leaders: Girl Scouts!
Girls: Can Do!
Leaders: Girl Scouts!
Girls: Make New!

Song:
Make new friends, but keep the old
One is silver and the other’s gold
A circle is round it has no end
That’s how long I’m going to be your friend!
I have a hand, and you have the other,
Put them together and we have each other!

Optional Additional verses:
A fire burns bright, it warms the heart.
We’ve been friends, from the very start.

You help me, and I’ll help you
And together we will see it through.

The sky is blue, the Earth is green
Together we can help to keep it clean.

A rainbow goes from here to there
That's how Girl Scouts learn to care and share!

Across the land, across the sea
Friends forever we will always be!

At the end of this song, one person starts “The Friendship Squeeze,” and
squeezes the hand of the person to her left.  As the squeeze goes around the
circle, each girl places her right foot in front of her.  When the squeeze has
gone all the way around the circle, turn yourself around and say “Whee!”
